Lisette Oropesa (born 1983) is an American soprano of Cuban descent, known for her virtuoso technique and expressive stage presence. She was born in New Orleans in 1983 and grew up in a musical family. She received her vocal training at Louisiana State University before being accepted into the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Programme. There she made her debut early on in major roles and quickly attracted attention. Oropesa has made an international name for herself, particularly in the repertoire of bel canto composers such as Donizetti, Rossini and Bellini. Her interpretation of demanding coloratura parts is considered technically brilliant and stylistically highly precise. Guest performances have taken her to venues such as the Metropolitan Opera, the Vienna State Opera, the Royal Opera House and the Opéra National de Paris. She enjoyed particular success in the title role of Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, which she has performed worldwide. She also performs regularly as a concert and lieder singer. Oropesa is also known for her sporting activities, in particular her passion for long-distance running. She is now one of the most important sopranos of her generation.
