Jonathan Tetelman

Jonathan Tetelman is a Chilean-American tenor, born in Castro, Chile, in 1988 and raised in New Jersey. He initially studied as a baritone at the Manhattan School of Music and later switched to tenor at Mannes College. Before his opera career took off, he worked for several years as a DJ in New York nightclubs – a period that gave him stage presence, a sense of rhythm and artistic freedom, and ultimately paved his way back to opera. Tetelman quickly became known for his warm, radiant voice, which combines a rare blend of lyric and dramatic tenor. In 2021, he signed an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon; ‘Arias’ (2022) and ‘The Great Puccini’ (2023) received widespread international acclaim. In the 2025/26 season, he will return to the Vienna State Opera as Cavaradossi and make his debut as Werther in Zurich. Critics praise his focused, brightly radiant voice and dramatic intensity. Tetelman has long established himself as one of the most distinctive tenors of his generation, making his name on cast lists worldwide a promising announcement for audiences.
